SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COUNCIL

The purpose of the GoodSport™ Scientific Advisory Council is to ensure that our products, marketing communications and claims are based on the latest sports nutrition science. The Scientific Advisory Council guides our research efforts to ensure we have a thorough understanding of the impact our products have on athletic performance and keeps us informed about emerging science and technologies.

Dr. Bob Murray, PhD, FACSM.
GOODSPORT® Chief Hydration Officer, Head of Sports Nutrition

Dr. Bob Murray is internationally recognized for his research on the hydration needs of athletes. His studies on the physiological and performance responses to fluid, electrolyte and carbohydrate ingestion have proven that being well hydrated during exercise is essential for anyone to get the most out of their bodies during physical activity.

Dr. Murray co-founded and directed the Gatorade Sports Science Institute for over 20 years. Dr. Murray received his PhD in exercise physiology from Ohio State University and is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and an honorary member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Kimberlee (K.J.) Burrington
Certified Food Scientist

K.J. Burrington has been instrumental in the development of the GoodSport® formulation. She provides technical guidance regarding dairy chemistry and the role dairy plays in sports nutrition. K.J. was the Dairy Ingredient Applications Program Coordinator at the Center for Dairy Research at the University of Wisconsin for over 20 years and currently serves as the Director, Training, Education, and Technical Development at the American Dairy Products Institute (ADPI).

KJ speaks internationally providing technical instruction and support for international food companies through visits and seminars provided by the U.S. Dairy Export Council and is a member of the Center of Excellence Committee for ADPI.

Dr. George Chiampas, DO, CAQSM, FACEP

Dr. Chiampas serves as Chief Medical Officer for the U.S. Soccer Federation, a board member of FIFA’s Medical Advisory Board, a member of the National Women’s Soccer League Medical Task Force, Team physician for the Chicago Blackhawks and Chief Medical and Safety Officer for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. He is charged with establishing best practice policies and guiding sport safety for athletes nationally and internationally.

Dr. Chiampas is an Assistant Professor and Attending Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He serves as Associate Director of EMS and Medical Director for Community and Sports Event Preparedness and Management at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and EMS Director for the Chicago Police Department. Dr. Chiampas has authored numerous scientific publications and book chapters and has lectured widely at academic and scientific conferences throughout the world.

Dr. Gregory D. Miller, Ph.D., M.A.C.N.
Global Chief Science Officer for National Dairy Council

Dr. Miller is the Nutritional Security Sector Lead for the Global Dairy Platform and is recognized as a leading voice in the global food system. He currently leads the effort to enhance dairy’s contributions toward a more sustainable food system by examining the intersection between nutrition, health, food insecurity, and environmental impact.

Dr. Miller has served as President for the American College of Nutrition and served on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Nutrition. He has presented more than 120 invited lectures and has published more than 160 research papers, reviews, articles, has co-edited three books on diet, nutrition, and toxicology and contributed chapters to nine books.

Dr. W. Larry Kenney, Ph.D., FACSM, FAPS
Professor of Physiology and Kinesiology, Pennsylvania State University

Dr. Kenney is an internationally renowned expert on hydration science. He has published more than 230 journal articles and dozens of book chapters on topics like the human responses to exercise, heat and cold stress, and dehydration. His research earned one of the longest-running R01 grants from the NIH, who continue to fund his research.

Dr. Kenney is the primary author of Physiology of Sport and Exercise, a best-selling textbook in exercise physiology now in its 7th edition. He served as President of the American College of Sports Medicine from 2003-04 and is also a Fellow of the American Physiological Society (APS). Dr. Kenney was the former chair of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute.

Dr. Nailah Coleman, MD, FAAP, FACSM
Pediatric attending, Children’s National Hospital

As a pediatrician working in four different hospitals, Dr. Coleman assessed the growth and wellness of children at different life stages, leading her to advocate for improving the health of both athletic and non-athletic students throughout their lifespans by improving systems-based care. Dr. Coleman completed a one-year fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine, extending her capacity to care for young patients beyond the walls of the hospital and onto courts and sports fields.

Dr. Coleman is a board-certified pediatrician and sports medicine physician and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine.
